Journalist Paul Brown has claimed that he would be surprised if Tottenham Hotspur do not put a bid in for Stefan de Vrij in the summer transfer window.

De Vrij has reportedly been on the radar of the Premier League side after previously working with Antonio Conte during his time at Inter. However, Spurs may face competition for the Dutch defender as Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in signing him.

The Dutch defender signed for Inter on a free transfer from Lazio in 2018 and has made 159 appearances since for the Italian side.

With the reports of a transfer away from Inter for De Vrij, Brown claimed to GiveMeSport that the deal to Spurs is very likely to happen in the summer.

He said: “I would be very surprised if a bid wasn’t made for him. The only reason I think they wouldn’t make a bid there is if they’re told by the player or the club that there’s no chance of him coming to Spurs. I think that’s very likely to happen this summer.”

Interestingly, Noel Whelan has claimed that De Vrij could form a ‘formidable’ partnership with Cristian Romero.

De Vrij has been impressive at the back for Inter this season, as they currently sit second in Serie A, two points behind rivals Milan, though the Nerazzurri have a game in hand.

In terms of stats in Serie A, De Vrij has been at the forefront for Inter. He has the fourth-highest amount of accurate passes per game (46.1), the fourth-most clearances per game (1.8) and he also has an average player rating of 7 in the Champions League this term, as per SofaScore.

Conte will know De Vrij from his time at the San Siro, so this may be a key factor in where the Dutch defender may opt to play his football next season, and with his experience in the Champions League, he may be a great addition to the Spurs squad.
