Phil Hay has slammed the decision making behind Leeds United’s new look fixture schedule.

Leeds United essentially have seven more cup finals this season which will ultimately determine which league they will be playing their football in next season and that starts on Saturday against fellow relegation rivals Watford with a win seeing them move potentially nine points clear of the bottom three.

The remaining fixtures for Leeds are not totally favourable but also, not as bad as someone like Everton who have a horrid schedule, however, what is terrible is the way that certain fixtures have been scheduled and organised by the Premier League and TV companies, such as the away trip to Selhurst Park which is now on April 25th at 8 PM, making it a nightmare for fans to get back home.

Hay has slammed this decision by the league and TV companies for not thinking about the fans, as he explained why on The Phil Hay Show.

(41:12) “I mean, the fixture list is just mad, isn’t it, like, come off the back of the international break and then two games and then you’re back into 14, 15, 16 days off and I know it’s because the FA Cup and the rearrangement of Palace, which should be said is an absolute joke.

“I mean, if you were a supporter that’s going to that game it’s highly unlikely that when it was announced, which was early April, that you haven’t already given some thought to travel plans, especially if you’re based abroad.”

This was a low point in Leeds United's history, but how many points did they get in the 2003/04 campaign?

TIF Thoughts on Leeds’ fixture schedule…

Leeds’ run of games from now until the end of the season is a real mixed bag as they have three matches in a row against Man City, Arsenal and Chelsea which will likely be very tough, however, apart from those games they have the likes of Watford, Brentford, Brighton and Crystal Palace, which will be seen as winnable games for Jesse Marsch.

The new manager will have to ensure his squad don’t run themselves into the ground during those fixtures and not have enough left in the tank for their final two games of the season which could still play a huge part in the battle to avoid the drop zone, so it will be interesting to see how Marsch handles his team selection.
