Journalist Keith Downie has exclusively told This Is Futbol that Ryan Fraser will stay at Newcastle United ahead of next season.

After the takeover at Newcastle United, they are expected to have a busy summer transfer window in terms of bringing new talent through the door. But this may mean that some of the current squad may have to make way for the new players to come in.

Fraser has been in superb form for Newcastle in the second half of the season, and with the new arrivals during the January transfer window, he was a major part of the club’s eight-game unbeaten run in the Premier League at the start of the year.

Despite the expected new haul of players to come in the door at St James’ Park in the summer, Downie has claimed that Fraser will be one of the players who will stay at the club – though there may be competition arriving for him in the off-season.

He said: “He’s been a favourite of Eddie Howe since he arrived, so he will stay.

“I do expect him to try and add in that position.”

TIF Thoughts on Keith Downie’s comments…

Before February, Fraser was somewhat under-par at Newcastle as he failed to pick up any type of good form, having scored no goals and registering just one assist in 17 Premier League games, but since the start of February, he went on a run where he notched two goals and two assists in the space of five league games.

Howe was familiar with the Scottish winger from his time at Bournemouth, so he may have trusted him enough that by implementing him in the side, he would come good at some point.

Despite Newcastle being expected to have a rebuild over the next few transfer windows, judging by Downie’s comments, Fraser may be one of the players to keep his place in the squad not only because of his relationship with manager Howe, but also his impressive form since the turn of the year.
