George Caulkin has been speaking on Pod on the Tyne about an important moment that occurred pre-match last week at Newcastle United.

While the majority of Newcastle fans will remember last Friday for the hard-fought 1-0 win at St James’ Park that has put their side 10 points above the bottom three, Amanda Staveley, Mehrdad Ghodoussi and members of the NUFC Trust will remember it for the meeting they had pre-match.

Are you happy with how PIF are running the club?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

Alex Hurst, who is a board member of the Trust, tweeted a picture of himself with two other members and the minority stakeholders in Newcastle before the match against Wolves, where they discussed all things about the club and making it a better experience for the fans.

Caulkin has hailed this as an important moment for the club.

He said: “I just think that makes Friday such an important moment for the football club. I mean, yes, what happened at St. James’ later on that night, because arguably that’s the game that may keep Newcastle in the division, which is obviously massively important.

“It sounds like such an obvious thing – a club and the club’s owners meeting its own fans. We know that Amanda and Mehrdad have kind of met people socially and they’ve done loads and loads and loads of selfies, but the Supporters’ Trust is a democratically elected body, it represents all fans, and to have that coming together of club, fans, is just symbolically very, very important.”

TIF Thoughts on the Trusts’ meeting…

It’s certainly a sign of intent and points towards a bright and cohesive future for Newcastle and its supporters if the owners ad the Trust can establish a solid and easy way of communicating what supporters think and the plans PIF have moving forward.

Compared to what life was like under former owner Mike Ashley, it’s night and day as the Sports Direct tycoon was a villain on Tyneside that rarely showed his face at games, nevermind organise meetings with supporters, so it’s no surprise that Caulkin sees this is an important moment for the club moving forward.
