According to football journalist Dean Jones, Newcastle United fans should expect their club to spend in the region of £90m-£100m in the summer window.

The transfer insider was speaking to This Is Futbol ahead of the summer with the Toon headed for their first summer window with their new owners at the helm.

Do you expect NUFC to spend big in the summer?

No

However, after a busy January window that saw four permanent signings come through the door, it appears Jones is hearing there may not be the war chest available as many may expect.

Eddie Howe had just over £90m to spend in January to bolster his side against the Premier League drop but still find themselves lurking around the bottom end of the table.

Given the club now has ambitions of winning titles and playing European football, Jones had the following to say on what he has heard will be made available for to spend Howe in the summer:

I think that the budget is going to be £90m to £100m. That’s what’s being mooted as like the general budget, we should expect,” said Jones.

An easy one to start with, which player was booked after pushing Bentancur to the ground?

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

Perhaps this may come as a surprise to hear for some fans given it is a similar figure to what the new owners spent in and around that region during the month of January.

Newcastle have already been linked to some big names ahead of the summer window with the likes of Sven Botman believed to still be on their radar.

And if that was the case, then the signing of players of that calibre would likely take up a large portion of the reported budget so we would be interested to see if this saw a change in transfer strategy.

Players like Dan Burn have come in and the ground running so potentially a new centre-back is no longer viewed as a big priority going into the summer.
