Injury expert and Sky Sports contributor Ben Dinnery believes Kieran Trippier has more of a chance than Callum Wilson and Ryan Fraser to appear for Newcastle United between now and the end of the season.

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

£16.2m-valued Trippier made the move to St James’ Park during the January transfer window, with his arrival providing a huge boost to the Magpies. The Toon were unbeaten in his first four Premier League matches, winning three, while he found the back of the net twice.

However, since then, a metatarsal fracture has kept him out of the action. Speaking on the latest episode of FPL Injuries, Dinnery had a positive update. He said: “I would suggest that Kieran Trippier – slightly different [situation] in the fact that it was a bone injury. It’s not soft tissue like Callum’s calf and Ryan’s hamstring problem.

“So he is slightly further ahead and I would give him more of a chance of playing this season. But what Eddie Howe said – you know, all three are on schedule to hopefully be involved [this season].”

TIF Thoughts on Trippier

Trippier’s impact in the first few games he played for Newcastle showed just how important he could become for them over the next few years. He has experience at the highest level, having played in a Champions League final and a World Cup semi-final, and his ability is clear for all to see.

Will Trippier play again this season?

No

At 31 years of age, he needs to be managed a bit more than he would have done previously. Newcastle now have 43 points and have moved into the top half of the Premier League table – a far cry from the relegation danger they previously found themselves in.

There is little for Newcastle left to play for this term, so there is no point rushing Trippier – or indeed Wilson or Fraser – back from injury if Howe is not desperate for their services.
