Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff will not be offered a new contract at the end of the season.

Sean Longstaff has been out of favour this season for Newcastle United, he has featured 20 times in the Premier League but just 11 of those games have been starts. Longstaff is out of contract at the end of the season, and the lack of involvement may be an indication that he will not be offered a new deal.

With the new Saudi takeover at Newcastle, they will likely be bringing in a haul of new talent to the club, and this could be at the expense of some of the current squad.

As Longstaff’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season, Dean Jones highlighted to GiveMeSport that the Magpies may opt against offering him a new deal.

“I don’t think Longstaff is getting a new contract, I think Newcastle have moved beyond that. He has struggled to make a place in the team his own and the way that Newcastle are heading, I don’t think they see much reason to drag on cases like that and try and make better of it,” Jones said.

TIF Thoughts on Dean Jones’ comments…

Sean Longstaff has been out of form this season for Newcastle which has meant that he has been left out of the side, he has been an unused substitute in five out of the Magpies last 10 games. In the Premier League, he is ranked 22nd in terms of highest average player rating at the club with 6.63, he has just one goal and one assist and is rated 14th in terms of highest accurate passes per game 18.2, as per Sofascore.

In January, Eddie Howe brought in players with great quality such as Bruno Guimaraes and Kieran Trippier who have Champions League experience and they will be expected to do the same in the summer, so current players who have been out of form such as Longstaff may be shown the door.
