Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Hugo Ekitike is nailed on to sign for Newcastle United in the summer transfer window.
Hugo Ekitike is currently enduring his breakthrough season, after coming through the youth academy with Stade Reims, he has featured 21 times in Ligue 1, whilst scoring an impressive nine goals and registering three assists for his side.
Despite the failed transfer in January, Dean Jones highlighted to GiveMeSport that Ekitike is nailed on to sign for the Magpies in the summer.
“Ekitike is still one of the most nailed on signings of the summer.
“He’s not a player that Newcastle fans will know that much about, but did they know much about Bruno before he came? Probably not. So, I think that also helps, he wasn’t a big star when he signed and he’s done brilliantly for them, so I think they’ll be optimistic for them no matter who comes in,” Jones said.
TIF Thoughts on Dean Jones’s comments…
Hugo Ekitike has been in fine form for Stade Reims this season, but unfortunately, he has been out of action since February after picking up an injury. In Ligue 1 for Reims, he is the club’s top scorer with nine goals, despite starting just 14 times.
At just 19-years-old, Ekitike is already one of the most sought-after young strikers due to his impressive goal-scoring record. If he was to feature in more of the season, then he may well have been on the radar of some of the top clubs in Europe.
With the newly found wealth of Newcastle United, they are expected to spend big and plan for the future, so Ekitike would be perfect for Eddie Howe to bring into St James’s Park.
