Journalist Conor McGilligan has urged Leeds United to keep hold of defender Robin Koch amid recent transfer speculation.

Indeed, it was reported this week by Football Insider that the Whites would be willing to listen to offers for the centre-back and could even be happy to sell him at a loss.

The article goes on to explain that a fee in the region of £11m ‘will be enough’ to see the 25-year-old depart, despite him being signed from Freiburg back in 2020 for a deal reported to be worth £13m.

While speaking about the player on the One Leeds Fan Channel, McGilligan said they simply can’t sell a German international with ‘that much potential’.

He explained: “You can’t give up on a kid who’s 25, a kid with that much potential. And the reason I keep mentioning the Germany aspect of it is because the Germans are a top-class nation.

“You know, they’re one of the best, top three in the world. And they are still monitoring this kid, are still putting him in squad after squad after squad.”

TIF Thoughts on Robin Koch and Leeds…

McGilligan is correct to point out Koch’s inclusion in the German squad as a show of his quality. Koch was included in his nation’s EURO 2020 squad and has played eight times on the international stage.

Unfortunately, due to fitness issues, he has not been a huge part of things for the club this season and was kept out of action for large chunks of the campaign with a pubis bone contusion. For that reason, the defender has played just 14 times across all competitions this term.

Will Robin Koch leave Leeds this summer?

With that in mind, it is perhaps understandable that Leeds would be willing to let him go if the right offer comes in. Even so, like McGilligan mentions, as a German international coming into his peak years, it would be potentially short-sighted to sell him this summer.
