Journalist Conor McGilligan has claimed that a source has tipped young defender Cody Drameh to shine at Leeds United in the future.

In January, the young right-back opted to leave on loan and signed for Championship outfit Cardiff City. Since then, it’s safe to say things have gone pretty well for the 20-year-old.

In March, Drameh was subject to great praise in a report from WalesOnline which called him a ‘freak’ and said it was bizarre that Leeds had allowed him to depart in the first place.

The article began: “With each passing performance, the fact Cardiff City managed to land Cody Drameh in the January transfer window is increasingly baffling and impressive in equal measure.”

While speaking about the player on the One Leeds Fan Channel, McGilligan said a contact he has at Cardiff was full of praise for Drameh.

He explained: “I’m not going to talk about the Cardiff City individual I got in contact with, but he said he’s absolutely staggering, he’s a staggering football player at such a young age and Leeds have to give him a chance.

“You know, someone I respect, and I do have a contact down there. Very, very highly well thought of.

“So for me, you know, you look at some of our Championship players that got up to that bracket, this kid’s done everything that we need of him, he’s gone and got loan experience.”

TIF thoughts on Cody Drameh and Leeds…

Before heading out on loan, Drameh had made three Premier League appearances for Leeds this season. Evidently, though, this wasn’t enough game time for him.

With that in mind, he went to Wales and has since started every Championship game for Cardiff, claiming three assists along the way.

Judging from the comments made by McGilligan’s source, it does sound as if he has really impressed while on loan. However, it remains to be seen as to whether new manager Jesse Marsch will consider him as a first-team option when he returns, or if he’s allowed to leave on a permanent basis.

If that does happen, it looks like it could be something Leeds may one day regret in the future.
