Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that the future of Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips will be decided in a few weeks.

Phillips has been one of the key players for Leeds this term who has suffered from injury problems, which has meant he has only managed to feature 14 times in the entire Premier League season, compared to his 29 appearances last term.

The English midfielder has been heavily linked with a move away from Leeds, and with Manchester United and West Ham United showing heavy interest, it may be hard for him not to turn his head.

Phillips’ contract is not set to expire until 2024, but Leeds may be keen to tie him down to a new deal, and Jones highlighted to GiveMeSport that the England international will want to know the club’s plans before signing anything.

He said: “As it stands right now, we’re still a few weeks away before any sort of decision is made.

“Kalvin Phillips is still waiting on what’s happening at Leeds. He wants to know about their plans, he wants to know the exact offer they’re going to come back with on a new contract, and then we’ll see if he becomes available to other clubs.”

TIF Thoughts on Dean Jones’ comments…

Phillips has lacked game time this season due to injury, but he was a key performer for the Whites last term. In the Premier League, he had an average passing accuracy of 85% per game, made an average of 2.6 tackles per game and won over 50% of his total duels, as per SofaScore.

With the news that Phillips has been linked to a move away from Elland Road, if a club in European competition comes calling, it might be difficult for the midfielder to opt against a move.

However, if Jesse Marsch and co can show their ambitions to the Yorkshireman in the summer by recruiting some new players, it may be enough to secure a new deal for him.
