Tony Scott has claimed on the All Together Now podcast that Frank Lampard could start Everton duo Ben Godfrey and Mason Holgate at centre-back tonight.

Everton go into yet another crucial game in the Premier League at Goodison Park, this time against Leicester City, who were just beaten by Newcastle United courtesy of a 94th-minute goal, meaning the Foxes could be down and low on confidence.

Will Everton win tonight?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

If the Toffees are able to make it three home wins in a row under Frank Lampard, they would at least temporarily create a six-point gap between themselves and Burnley, who are their closest threat to relegation.

In what is set to be a big fixture in the Toffees’ season, Scott has picked out a potentially unlikely defensive duo Lampard could hand starts to.

He said: “Leicester are just as bad as us at set-pieces, aren’t they, to be honest, so there’s an argument to say that you’ll probably get away with a Godfrey and Holgate, dare I say it, against Leicester. Because there’s no Vardy, he’s still struggling, isn’t he, to be fit, they might play Iheanacho or someone like that, so I don’t think we’d need height at the back.”

Which of these Serie A stars did the Toffees miss out on?

Lampard confirmed during his pre-match press conference that Yerry Mina is now back fit and in contention to be selected for the Toffees as they approach the crucial run-in, so the manager will have to be very careful in how he rushes him back into the starting lineup.

Mina has missed the last nine Premier League games due to injury, so after such an extended spell on the sidelines, the Colombian should not be rushed back into the side, especially considering Everton have recorded back-to-back clean sheets at Goodison Park in games Godfrey and Holgate started, so Lampard may well have more trust in them now.
