Tony Scott has admitted on the All Together Now podcast that he would love to see Everton sign Joe Gomez this summer.

Everton clearly have an issue at the back as they boast the fifth-worst defence in the league while having the ninth-highest xGA (expected goals allowed) value, pointing toward their defenders making too many mistakes and giving up goals that should never have had a chance.

Will Everton win tonight?

Something that boosted their defence was the return of Yerry Mina as Everton embark on one of the most important run-ins of the club’s history, as it could decide which league they play their football in next season.

Despite Everton’s perils, Scott is thinking positively about the future, urging owner Farhad Moshiri and Everton to go all out for Joe Gomez from their city rivals.

He said: “I’m going to throw one really big one in the mix, I was speaking to a Red about this the other day, and it may raise a few eyebrows.

“I would absolutely break the bank – he’s available – for Joe Gomez. I really would, he’s a brilliant centre-back.

“He is everything that we need in terms of young, energetic, been there, seen it and done it, he tackles, he’s everything that you’d want in a centre back, for me.”

Which of these Serie A stars did the Toffees miss out on?

If Everton are to bring in Gomez this summer, they will seemingly face stiff competition from Premier League sides, with both West Ham United and Newcastle United linked with a move for the centre-back who will cost £23m, according to The Daily Express.

That’s quite a hefty transfer fee for someone that’s only started one league game all season and is seemingly the fourth choice in his position, however, if Liverpool are to contemplate selling to their bitter city rivals, that price tag may jump up even more.
