According to Sky Sports contributor and injury expert Ben Dinnery, Everton manager Frank Lampard could face a late decision on Seamus Coleman before Wednesday’s game against Burnley.

The Toffees travel to Turf Moor in what is a huge game in their quest to survive in the Premier League. As it stands, the Merseyside outfit are just three points ahead of Watford in 18th, albeit with two games in hand. One of those clashes is against the Clarets, who are direct relegation rivals, which only adds to the importance of the clash.

Do you remember who Alex Iwobi was signed from?

Club captain Coleman was missing in the defeat to West Ham United at the weekend, but according to Dinnery, he will be back in the matchday squad at Turf Moor. Speaking on Tuesday’s Premier FPL Injuries episode, he said: “We will see Fabian Delph back in the matchday squad and also Seamus Coleman, but there’s no indication of either of those players starting in that game. It could be a late decision.”

TIF Thoughts on Seamus Coleman…

There is no doubt about it – Everton cannot afford to lose against Sean Dyche’s side. Even a draw would be something of a disappointment, with this arguably one of the easiest games the Goodison Park side have left on paper.

At the moment, Lampard is short at right-back. It has been reported Nathan Patterson is likely to miss the rest of the season, and Coleman’s absence at the London Stadium meant Jonjoe Kenny was the only natural available on the right side of the back four.

Coleman’s performances have come in for criticism at times this term, but the Ireland international’s experience will be vital during the Premier League run-in. This is his 13th year at the club, and his presence alone could play a role in the coming weeks. Even if he only makes the matchday squad against Burnley, Lampard will welcome his return, especially if he can find some inspirational words in the dressing room to spur his teammates on.
