Crystal Palace: Supporters will be fuming over footage of Dan James challenge on Joel Ward

|

Crystal Palace supporters may well be feeling pretty angry this morning after seeing footage of an aggressive challenge in their last game.

Earlier this week, the Eagles hosted Leeds United at Selhurst Park in the Premier League. In the end, both teams had to settle for a point as the ‘bad-tempered’ game ended without any goals.

The game did not pass without incident, however, and upon reviewing one reckless challenge from Dan James, Palace supporters may be wondering whether he deserved a red card.

Indeed, the Welsh winger went sliding in at full pace in an attempt to win the ball off Joel Ward and caught him late, slightly high up on the shin.

As seen in the footage shared on Twitter, the Palace defender was clearly unhappy with the tackle as he hopped to his feet immediately to confront James and a quick tussle between both sets of players ensued.

TIF Thoughts on Dan James and Crystal Palace…

Chris Sutton stated that it was ‘stupidity’ from Dan James and called him an ‘angry little fella’.

In the end, the Leeds man was only booked, and could probably feel a little fortunate to avoid greater punishment. His tackle was pretty late, high, and he came in at a great speed with his studs showing.

To make things worse, Ward also ended up picking up a yellow card for his reaction to the poor challenge. No doubt, that fact would have left Palace supporters even more aggrieved.

Despite the incident, the game never quite reached boiling point and both teams ended with all their players still on the pitch. As a result of the draw, Palace now sit in 14th place in the league on 38 points with just five games to play.
