Journalist Josh Holland has claimed that Joe Gomez joining Aston Villa would be brilliant business for Steven Gerrard.

Joe Gomez is currently out of favour at Liverpool in the Premier League, he has been an unused substitute for the Reds in the last three times he has been named in the squad. He has missed large chunks of the season due to injury issues and with the impressive form of Jurgen Klopp’s side in his absence, he has found it difficult to get back into the team.

With Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard outlining that the centre of defence is an area that he wants to improve in the summer, Joe Gomez could be a suitable option for the former Reds captain.

With Gerrard stating that he wants a new defender, Josh Holland claimed to GiveMeSport that he feels that Joe Gomez would be a great option for him.

“I think they’re both quality centre-backs. I think Gomez, in particular, the whole Liverpool and Gerrard connection is pretty interesting.

“I think Gomez is good enough to start in a Premier League side, and obviously, he doesn’t do that at Liverpool because of the world-class players above him. So, bringing him to Villa Park would be brilliant, brilliant business,” Holland said.

TIF Thoughts on Josh Holland’s comments…

Joe Gomez has not featured regularly for Liverpool this season, but this is more of a testament to how good his teammates have been in his absence rather than his poor form. For example, he was awarded a 7.6 player rating against Watford when he featured out of position as a right-back and provided an excellent assist for Diogo Jota.

He has proved that he can cut it at the top level, so if Aston Villa were to bring him to Villa Park in the summer, then it would be a great deal for all parties because it will give him much-needed game time and Villa will have a good young defender on their hands.
