Football writer Charles Watts has said that Kieran Tierney will likely not play again until the Arsenal pre-season begins in July.

Earlier this week, the club announced that after suffering an injury to his left knee, the defender will have to undergo surgery that will probably keep him out until the end of the season.

While they said they would have a clearer understanding of the situation – and a potential return date – after his procedure, Watts has offered an update that does not look so good.

Indeed, while speaking on his YouTube channel, he explained that someone at the club had said he is looking at an absence of ‘several months’.

Can Arsenal make top four without Kieran Tierney?

He said: “I was speaking to someone yesterday at the club, and they were saying the kind of time schedule that they’re looking for is that they’re hopeful that he will be back fully ready to return for the start of pre-season training, which is in July.

“So you’re looking at several months out, really, for Kieran Tierney at the moment. It certainly looks like he will miss Scotland’s World Cup qualifier against Ukraine, which at the moment is scheduled for June.

“So bad news for him, but certainly bad news for Arsenal.”

TIF Thoughts on Kieran Tierney and Arsenal…

With the Gunners hoping to claim a Champions League place before the end of the season, it will come as a huge blow to know that Tierney will miss the rest of the campaign.

Indeed, his displays have been so good over the past few seasons, Ally McCoist recently tipped the left-back to become the next Arsenal captain and said other pundits such as Laura Woods, Darren Bent and Ray Parlour all agree with him.

To make things worse, in the same statement, they also confirmed that Takehiro Tomiyasu will be out until 16th April at the earliest, and so the club will be without both their first-choice full-backs over the next few games.
