Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu has been sidelined due to injury since January after having an impressive start to the season for the Gunners.

Tomiyasu was a mainstay in the Arsenal side before he picked up his injury, with his last game for the Gunners coming in January against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup. He featured 16 times before that in the Premier League, with all of those games being starts.

Arsenal had recently experienced a dip in form in the Premier League, but got back to winning ways with a morale-boosting victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in midweek.

Prior to the Chelsea game, the Arsenal faithful were handed something of a boost as Arsenal posted photos of Tomiyasu back in training on Instagram.

TIF Thoughts on Tomiyasu…

Tomiyasu signed for Arsenal from Bologna for £16m in the summer and was impressive in the first half of the season before his injury. In the Premier League for the Gunners, he has made the third-most tackles per game (1.7), the fourth-most interceptions per game (1.2) and the fourth-most clearances (2.7), as per SofaScore.

It will be a huge boost for Arsenal if they can get Tomiyasu back for the remainder of the season, with fellow full-back and first-team regular Kieran Tierney picking up an injury that will see him sidelined for the foreseeable future.

Arsenal currently sit 5th in the Premier League, only behind Spurs on goal difference with a North London derby set to be played next month, so having Tomiyasu back in the side could be a deciding factor in the outcome of the game and the race for a Champions League spot.
