Football writer Charles Watts has claimed that someone close to Thomas Partey has said he wouldn’t rule out an early return from injury for the Ghanaian.

At the start of April, the club’s top-four hopes took a huge blow as their key midfielder picked up a bad injury in their defeat at Crystal Palace. Indeed, it was reported at the time that he could end up missing the rest of the season due to an issue with his right thigh.

In recent times, though, hopes have emerged that he could be back sooner than expected – especially after the midfielder posted a video of himself working hard in the gym on Instagram.

While speaking on his YouTube channel, Watts warned fans not to get ahead of themselves, as there was no guarantee Partey would play again this season, but his contact suggested there was still a chance he could come back quicker than first thought.

He said: “There have been suggestions that he is now, as I said, well ahead of schedule and he could well feature.

“I mean, I spoke to someone close to Thomas Partey this morning [Tuesday]. He wasn’t ruling anything out, but it’s just a case of let’s see how it goes.

“He said Thomas has a history of coming back from injuries a little bit quicker than expected, so he wouldn’t rule anything out.

“But no one’s, right now, as far as I’m aware, sort of looking at it and guaranteeing that Thomas is going to be potentially involved for the final two weeks of the season or anything like that.”

TIF Thoughts on Thomas Partey and Arsenal…

There’s no doubting just how important Partey is to the Arsenal team. Indeed, club legend and former Invincible Gilberto Silva compared the midfielder to Patrick Vieira on Twitter for a fine display against Manchester City earlier this year.

With the Gunners currently leading the race for the final Champions League spot in the league table, they would no doubt love to have the Ghanaian available to help get them over the line.

With that in mind, it would be understandable if fans were left excited by Watts’ latest update, as his source suggests an early return could potentially be on the cards. However, the journalist is also careful to point out that this is far from a certainty and so supporters may have to temper their hopes for a little while yet.
