ExWHUemployee has revealed midfielder Tomas Soucek is in talks over a new contract at West Ham United.

Back in the summer of 2020, the Hammers agreed upon a four-year deal with the Czech international after he had arrived from Slavia Prague on an initial loan six months earlier.

However, now only into his second full season with the club, it looks as though David Moyes is keen on tying Soucek down to a fresh contract with improved terms.

Indeed, while talking on The West Ham Way podcast, Ex explained that, while rumours of him becoming the club’s top earner were false, the player should get a ‘decent increase’.

He said: “Tomas Soucek is also in talks about a new contract for him. There’s been talks about him becoming the highest-paid earner at the club. That’s not true.

“The salary that he’s been offered is an increase, a decent increase, but not that would put him, in the hundred-thousands.”

“And depending on what you believe, either [Andriy] Yarmolenko or [Kurt] Zouma are the highest-paid players at the club – with around about £100-105k a week.

“So he would be just beneath that, I think, probably. Well, I say ‘just beneath’, quite a bit beneath. Around about, £80-85k, I think is the new talks.”

TIF Thoughts on Tomas Soucek and West Ham…

Since Soucek arrived in east London, it would be hard for anyone to deny that he has been worth every penny. Indeed, he has been a regular in the middle of the park for West Ham throughout his time.

Last season, he played all 38 Premier League games, scoring an impressive 10 goals, while this term, he has scored four times in 25 outings, including last weekend against Wolves.

Due in part to that quality, the Hammers have endured a great couple of seasons and are now currently pushing for the top four and still competing in Europe.

While he may have had a dip in recent form, it makes plenty of sense for the club to be keen on offering him that ‘decent increase’ that Ex has claimed will be coming his way.
