Football presenter Richard Keys has slammed the decision to overturn the huge decision involving Leeds at the weekend.

The Yorkshire club prevailed at Elland Road on the weekend to earn three huge points in their fight against relegation with the bottom three now four points adrift.

However, for Keys, the game was marred by the refereeing decisions seen as Norwich City were denied a penalty after Atwell initially awarded Dean Smith’s side with the spot-kick.

The incident went to VAR and the official, Dean, instructed Atwell to review the footage on the pitchside monitor which the 39-year-old then decided to change his mind.

And Keys was clearly in disagreement with the decision made by Atwell’s decision as the broadcaster vented his fury on his latest blog post:

“Will he [Mike Riley] call Dean Smith? Don’t hold your breath. There’s no way Mike Dean should’ve overruled Stuart Attwell at Elland Road. Clear and obvious error? I hate the phrase – but absolutely not. It was a pen.”

He later stated:

“VAR made the calls – not the refs. It’s always VAR that makes the big decisions. I keep telling you this. Riley has instructed everybody that VAR decides. Refs know this when they’re ‘called’ to the monitor. It’s wrong. Totally wrong.”

TIF Thoughts on Keys’ comments…

We think Dean got the decision right on Sunday with the Norwich ace seen to stand on Luke Ayling’s leg rather than being fouled himself.

So we are not too sure where Keys is coming from with his argument as we believe VAR was sued correctly to overturn what was initially the wrong decision from Atwell.

However, Leeds may feel hard done by themselves with a nudge in the back on Daniel James inside the box not viewed as a penalty by the referee, nor VAR.
