Insider ExWHUemployee has claimed that West Ham United will sign a new goalkeeper in the summer transfer market.

As things stand, there remains a certain level of doubt over the current two preferred options between the sticks at the club. Indeed, first-choice keeper Lukasz Fabianski is now 36 years old and his contract runs out in the summer.

On top of that, backup player Alphonse Areola is there only on loan from Paris Saint-Germain and will not necessarily stay at the club beyond the end of this campaign.

With that in mind, it is interesting to hear that the club will almost certainly go out and make a signing in the upcoming summer window.

Indeed, when discussing the matter on The West Ham Way podcast, Ex named a few options – such as Sam Johnstone and Seny Dieng – while also suggesting that Areola’s deal could be extended.

He said (01:14:13): “On the keeper front, we will sign a keeper. A couple of names in the running that aren’t currently with us, are Sam Johnstone, who I’ve spoke about before, and I think his name is Seny Dieng of QPR – he’s someone that’s impressed,

“But apparently, we have an option – well, I know we have an option factually – to sign Areola in the summer, but apparently, there’s an option that we can loan him for a second season as well.”

TIF thoughts on West Ham and their goalkeeping options…

For now, until the end of the season, Fabianski is likely to remain the clear cut number one, with Areola acting as deputy – no other goalkeeper has played for the club this term.

However, considering at least one, if not both, of those players could potentially leave in the summer when their current deals come to an end, it’s easy to understand why Ex has stated that a goalkeeper will be signed.

Do you want Lukasz Fabianski to sign a new contract at West Ham?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Of course, that could simply mean Areola joining permanently, or signing a new loan deal, but it may also open the door to a transfer for the aforementioned Johnstone or Dieng.

No doubt, the club will have some key decisions to make over the next few months regarding the goalkeeping situation.
