Journalist Chris Jack believes that having Filip Helander back is a huge boost for Giovanni van Bronckhorst at Rangers.

28-year-old defender Helander has featured just four times in the Scottish Premiership for Rangers this season due to injury problems, but he has been involved in the squad in recent weeks.

The Swedish international returned to action last month in the Scottish Cup against Annan Athletic, where he scored, before facing Dundee United in the league.

Jack told GiveMeSport that his return to action is a “huge bonus” for Van Bronckhorst due to his positional play and decision-making.

He said: “Having him back, in general, is a huge bonus for Rangers. He is vastly experienced and knows what it’s all about. He is arguably Rangers’ best defender in terms of his positional sense and his decision-making.”

TIF Thoughts on Chris Jack’s comments…

Although Helander was awarded a match rating of just 6.5 on his return to Scottish Premiership action by SofaScore, his experience at the back could be key for Rangers in the remaining games of the season as the Gers look for back-to-back title-winning campaigns.

Helander has been praised heavily in the past for his displays whilst on international duty with Sweden, most notably when his side were triumphant against Spain in a European qualifier last year.

After he has shown what he can do on the international stage, he could be a great partner for Connor Goldson at the heart of the Rangers defence. Goldson has been a mainstay in the Rangers defence this season but his partner has been switched regularly, so the 28-year-old Swede could be the suitable partner that Van Bronckhorst has been looking for.
