West Ham United: ExWHUemployee says Angelo Ogbonna may not play again this season

ExWHUemployee has revealed that West Ham United defender Angelo Ogbonna may not play again this season despite his recent positive injury update.

Having suffered what looked like could be a campaign-ending anterior cruciate ligament injury back in November, the defender has been trying to rebuild his fitness over the past few months.

And it seemed he had been doing well on the road to recovery, with Ogbonna even sharing a recent Instagram video of himself back in the gym as he steps up his rehab.

However, despite that, Ex has revealed that the club’s medical staff may keep him out of action even if he was able to get back on the pitch before the end of the season.

Speaking on The West Ham Way podcast, he said: “I mentioned that Ogbonna’s ahead of schedule.

“He is ahead of schedule, but a club’s physio spoke to me and said although he is ahead of schedule, they may not risk him this season because at best, he is going to get one or two games.

“And it might be better just to have the whole season off, have pre-season, get him a new contract.”

TIF Thoughts on Angelo Ogbonna and West Ham…

This news may come as a blow for some West Ham fans and it will likely come as a disappointment for Ogbonna as well. After all, it was believed that he was targeting a return before the end of the season.

Still, if he can earn that new contract away from the pitch – which he will need to do in order to stay at the club as his current deal expires in the summer – you can see why the club don’t want to rush him back to action too soon in case aggravating the injury will put an extension in jeopardy.

Does Angelo Ogbonna deserve a new West Ham contract?

Fortunately, they do have the options of Kurt Zouma, Craig Dawson and Issa Diop to play at centre-back. And so, at this late stage of the season, they will hopefully be able to get by without Ogbonna having to return to the pitch.
