Insider ExWHUemployee has revealed that West Ham United defender Vladimir Coufal is in contention to play in the club’s next game after a hernia operation.

Due to his fitness struggles, the Czech international has not actually played for the Hammers since a 2-2 draw with Leicester City back in the middle of February.

However, on the resumption of Premier League football, following the current international break, it looks as though Coufal could be fit to play again.

Indeed, while talking on The West Ham Way podcast, Ex mentioned that the right-back (as well as Jarrod Bowen) is on the track back to full health ahead of the upcoming Everton game.

He explained (01:07:49): “Coufal had a hernia operation and he is on the right track too.

“So hopefully both of them [Coufal and Bowen] will be available for the squad against Everton and certainly for Lyon.”

TIF thoughts on Vladimir Coufal and West Ham…

It’s notable that Ex confirms that Coufal should be available for the Lyon match at the latest. This will come as a big boost for David Moyes who will no doubt want all his options available for that huge Europe League tie.

Fortunately, if there are any surprise setbacks, the club do have a strong alternative option at right-back. Indeed, Ben Johnson has impressed this season – so much so that his recent form has seen him rewarded with a first call up into the England U21 national team.

Even so, with plenty still to play for in the Premier League, and a potential semi-final clash with Barcelona on the cards, West Ham fans will likely want Coufal back as soon as possible.
