New footage from Tottenham Hotspur’s recent match has given an insight into why Hugo Lloris wears the captain’s armband for the club.

During Spurs’ last match, they cruised to an easy 5-0 win over Premier League rivals Everton. An own goal from Toffees defender Michael Keane set the tone, before further efforts from Son Heung-min, Sergio Reguilon, and a double from Harry Kane finished the job.

Of course, this game also saw ex-Tottenham man Dele Alli return to the north London club for the first time since leaving on a permanent deal back in January.

In footage shared by the Spurs official Tik Tok account, the midfielder can be seen clapping his former fans as he shows his respect for his old club. During the emotional moment, captain Lloris takes the time to put an arm around Alli’s shoulder and comfort him in light of the heavy loss.

TIF thoughts on Hugo Lloris and Spurs…

The Englishman had been at Tottenham for seven years at the club before leaving. Having spent nearly a decade at the club himself, Lloris will be more than aware of the emotional bond the player must have with Spurs.

Was it right for Spurs to keep Harry Kane this summer?

As club captain, the £6.3m-rated Frenchman would have likely spent plenty of time offering support and advice to Alli during his spell with the team. It shows great leadership skills that he was still willing to maintain that duty despite both men now playing for different sides.

Incidents such as this may well prove why, even though Harry Kane is England’s captain, Lloris still leads the Lilywhites.
