A number of Tottenham Hotspur players were left frustrated with Son Heung-min on Tuesday night during their FA Cup defeat.

That is according to Alasdair Gold, who was speaking on the Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham podcast having reported live on the night from the Riverside Stadium.

Are you worried by Son's lack of consistency?

Yes

Yes

No

No

It was a frustrating night on the whole for the eight-time FA Cup winners, who were dumped out of the competition in the fifth round by Championship side Middlesbrough.

But it seems the South Korean winger left some of the Spurs players angered in what was certainly a night to forget for the 29-year-old.

In Gold’s post-game player ratings, the Spurs correspondent awarded Son with just a 3/10 and had the following to say from the heated incidents on the pitch:

“I think the other players were getting quite frustrated with him. There was one moment when Hojbjerg played him a ball that admittedly wasn’t the greatest. It put him in a little bit of difficulty and he had someone coming up behind him, but all they needed was for Son to hold the ball up, and he just didn’t.

“He managed to kind of lose the ball. And then he kind of eventually came back to the Spurs box. It didn’t result in anything, but then Son had a go at Hojbjerg.

“And I think Eric Dier saw that and was just like: ‘No way, we’re not having that.’ And he came out and had a proper shout at Son and was pointing as if to essentially say: ‘No, you were just as much at fault. Get back up the pitch and do what you’re meant to be doing.'”

TIF Thoughts on Son’s performance…

On what was an underwhelming night for the Spurs side as a whole, fans may have been looking at the likes of Son to come up with a moment of brilliance to provide the difference.

However, the South Korean was nowhere to be seen throughout the game and fluffed the only real opportunity he had on goal as he headed straight at the Boro goalkeeper late on.

Son has not been as prolific in front of goal since returning from his recent injury issue, but with Spurs showing a real lack of consistency, we think he needs to bounce back in style in what will be a big game on Monday against Everton.

There is certainly an argument for Son playing pretty poorly in recent months while still managing to find the back of the net.

But if those goals continue to dry up, could Antonio Conte look to give him a rest through some time on the Spurs bench?
