Tottenham Hotspur’s Steven Bergwijn has dropped a rather cryptic message on his Snapchat account.

Having made the move to north London in the January window of 2020 in a deal that cost a reported £27m, it’s fair to say that he hasn’t exactly been a regular for Tottenham, regardless of which of the four managers have been in charge during his time there.

He has only started 25 games in the Premier League, and whilst some of that has been due to injuries, sometimes it has purely been down to not being picked by the man in charge.

Indeed, he came close to leaving the club in January, with reports suggesting that he could have made a move to Dutch side Ajax, but Spurs weren’t prepared to let him go until they could find a replacement. That move never materialised and he is still at the club.

And it appears as if the 24-year-old’s frustration at a lack of playing time might have boiled over on social media as he posted a picture on his Snapchat (via Reddit) which showed a picture of a rather dirty-looking Lamborghini alongside the message: “No matter how precious you are, if you are not at a place that values you, you are nothing.”

Will Spurs sell Bergwijn in the summer?

No

This could very well be interpreted as a not-so-subtle hint towards the club that he feels he is being underused and underappreciated and wants to move away as soon as possible, which you can sort of understand from his perspective given how little he has played at times.

And given their willingness to let him leave in January, it seems as if Spurs are more than open to facilitating that move, so it might well be that they try again to cash in on him during the summer transfer window, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
