Phil Hay has dropped an interesting update on the fitness of Leeds United’s Liam Cooper.

Leeds United’s captain has not played any football since December 5th which has coincided with Leeds winning just two games across all competitions and seen them slide closer and closer to the relegation zone.

Do Leeds need Cooper to survive?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Cooper was a regular under Marcelo Bielsa during their time in both the Championship and Premier League, with the centre-back also not missing a single minute of league action prior to this long-term injury he’s still nursing.

Speaking on The Phil Hay Show, Hay himself has dropped an update on Cooper and where he’s at in terms of returning from injury.

“I’ve just come out of Marsch’s press conference and Cooper is back training but it might be the other side of the international break when he’s able to play, Phillips isn’t in full training.

“People have seen them in photos out on the grass, but there is a difference between being out on the grass and doing work individually and with fitness coaches.”

TIF Thoughts on Cooper…

This was a low point in Leeds United's history, but how many points did they get in the 2003/04 campaign?

While Cooper has been caught in a video on LUFC TV back in training with the rest of the Leeds squad, it appears that he is still some way off being match fit, which is obviously very different to just being fit enough to train.

If Jesse Marsch can get Liam Cooper back fit and ready to play 90 minutes in the Premier League it would be an obvious boost, especially given that the new manager had to field right-back Luke Ayling in the heart of his back four during his first match in charge which is far from ideal.
