Newcastle United supporters will surely be left buzzing as photos of Callum Wilson have emerged from their warm-weather training camp in Dubai.

Having put themselves in a great position to stay in the Premier League following an impressive run of form in the past few weeks, and with the Premier League taking a break for the international duty, those players who aren’t with their country are away in the Middle East taking part in some training sessions.

One player who has made the trip has been Wilson, Newcastle United’s top scorer both this season and last, this despite the fact that he has been injured since the turn of the year.

However there are some claims that both him as well as fellow absentee Kieran Trippier could be back in the team in April, so any chance to be back in with the team and amongst the rest of the players is an opportunity not to be passed up.

Indeed, he appears to be putting the work in to get back for the final few weeks of the season, with the Newcastle United Twitter account posting a couple of pictures of him in training alongside the caption ‘Stepping up his recovery’:

Will Callum Wilson play again for Newcastle this season?

It certainly seems as if Newcastle United want to get the 30-year-old Wilson back for the last few games of the season, which is understandable because whilst they are currently in a very good spot, nine points above the relegation zone, as their last two games have shown, there is still the possibility that they can be dragged back into the thick of it if a few more results go against them.

So to just have that safety blanket of Wilson coming back into the squad to give them that extra option when it comes to goals would be most welcome, but they just have to make sure that they do so carefully.

The last thing that they need is for him to get reinjured and have to go without him for the first few weeks or even months of next season as well. So if they are safe by the time he is fit and available to come back, it might be best for them to just leave him until the end of the season rather than risk anything serious happening to him again.

However, there’s no denying just how big his return would be as he’s already shown his importance this season, scoring four goals in his first five Premier League games. This is something that Chris Wood hasn’t been able to do on a consistent basis, with just one goal to his name since making the switch.

Wilson continues to be in the top 10 for player ratings this season despite missing large chunks and is only second best to Allan Saint-Maximin in terms of shots per game, with an impressive goal conversion rate of 22%.
