Newcastle United duo Ciaran Clark and Jamal Lewis will likely find themselves looking for a new club in the summer transfer window.

Speaking to This Is Futbol, football journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed the defensive pair are clearly not in the plans of Eddie Howe and presumably do not have a future on Tyneside.

Both Clark and Lewis were omitted from Howe’s 25-man Premier League squad following the conclusion of the January transfer window.

Lewis, in particular, had struggled in the early stages of the season with just five Premier League appearances to his name prior to the February cut-off.

And it was not much better for Clark with 13 top-flight appearances to his name and it is apparent O’Rourke feels their time on Tyneside may be at an end:

“The likes of Jamal Lewis, Ciaran Clark, both left out of that 25-man Premier League squad so they don’t seem to have a future under Eddie Howe right now either,” said O’Rourke.

TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments…

Unfortunately for Clark and Lewis, we have to agree with O’Rourke. We feel a big message was sent out to the pair in February when they were left out of Howe’s plans.

And this will come as a massive disappointment to Lewis who only joined the club less than two years ago in a deal worth just shy of £15m.

However, with the new owners in place, and big plans for the future, their omission from the squad does feel like a sign they may be headed for the exit doors on Tyneside.
