Newcastle United starting goalkeeper, Martin Dubravka, may have to move on from the Toon in the summer transfer window, according to Pete O’Rourke.

The football journalist was speaking to This Is Futbol amid reports claiming the Tyneside club will be looking to upgrade from the 33-year-old in the upcoming transfer window.

Dubravka has been at the club for just over four years now – including his initial loan – and he has gone on to make 121 appearances across all competitions.

However, with big plans for the Toon following their Saudi-based takeover, it appears they are looking to upgrade their starting goalkeeper with Jan Oblak even one of the names linked.

And with the rumours circulating, O’Rourke feels the 33-year-old may be set to play his final nine games for the Tyneside club following the international break:

“It’s obviously an area that they want to improve on. So with that in mind, you’d be thinking that Dubravka might have to move on,” said O’Rourke.

TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments…

We think this is a fair assessment given Dubravka is still the starting goalkeeper for Slovakia. You would have to question how much of an effect not playing would have on his international career?

And would he be willing to play number two and potentially put his spot in the national side under doubt? It is certainly hard for us to imagine.

However, at the same time, with just four clean sheets to his name this season in the Premier League, we would not blame Newcastle for wanting to find an upgrade in the summer.
