Newcastle United could be set for a bit of a saving in the transfer market following reports that have emerged regarding winger Rodrygo.

A recent report from Spanish outlet Sport has claimed the Brazilian could be about to be let go from his contract at Real Madrid, with the club even willing to let him go for what would appear to be a cut-price offer.

Further reports from Spain have suggested Newcastle are amongst the interested parties.

Amid claims Real Madrid could let him go for €40m (£33.9m), this would arguably be something of a saving, because the CIES Football Observatory –  a database that uses an econometric approach to assess the transfer value of professional footballers on a scientific basis – has calculated that he should be worth as much as €50m (£42.4m), which represents a saving of roughly £8.5m.

Whilst that might not seem a lot, especially to Newcastle and their incredibly rich owners, with reports suggesting the club won’t be spending lavishly this summer in the transfer market, getting him for less than they might have reasonably expected to pay should come as a massive bonus for them, as it should save them a rather tidy amount when put up against the rest of their budget for the window.

At the age of 21, he should still be seen as an up-and-comer at Real Madrid, having managed to make 95 appearances for them across his career, during which time he has bagged 11 goals and 18 assists, although that doesn’t appear enough for him to carry on his career in the Spanish capital.

But it looks as if their loss could very well be Newcastle’s gain if they can take him off their hands. The numbers show that there is potential there, especially given the stage that he has had to perform on at such a major club, and if he can bring that form to Tyneside, it should really give them something to look forward to, not just in the immediate future, but also for the years to come.

Although, reports suggest they may face some stiff competition from Liverpool and Arsenal to sign him, so Newcastle had better act decisively if they want to bring him on board.
