Journalist Jordan Cronin has admitted that he worries for the future of Martin Dubravka at Newcastle United while speaking on the Loaded HQ YouTube channel.

Dubravka was a surprise signing back in January 2018 under Rafael Benitez, but after his stunning debut at home to Manchester United,  where he kept a clean sheet, made stunning saves and dominated his 18-yard box, there was no longer any surprise as to why he was brought to Tyneside.

Should Newcastle sell Dubravka?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Since then, the Slovakian international had penned a six-year contract back in 2019 and has become the club’s undisputed No 1, but after a few hairy moments in recent months, particularly against Norwich City, there was talk in January of Dean Henderson joining, raising doubts over the 33-year-old’s long-term future on Tyneside.

Cronin admits that people at the club want to sign a new ‘keeper this summer.

He said: “I love Martin Dubravka, but I think there is a desire to potentially sign another goalkeeper. Newcastle were linked with a few in January. Dean Henderson is a player that was heavily linked, so the goalkeeping situation one’s up for debate.”

A nice and easy one to start off with, how much is Callum Wilson worth?

One major thing that has started to creep into Dubravka’s career is long-term injuries, with the Slovakian having missed a large chunk at the beginnings of the last two seasons because of injuries, which, for a first-choice goalkeeper, can’t be happening every single campaign.

If someone like Henderson, who proved himself at Sheffield United and briefly last year at Old Trafford, is on the market in the summer for a reasonable price and Newcastle stay up, given Cronin’s claim, it may be unlikely that the Magpies would ignore such an opportunity – and that will only spell bad news for Dubravka.
