Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie has claimed that Newcastle United are currently ‘‘working hard’ to appoint a new chief executive.

Midway through this season, the Magpies were subject to a spectacular takeover which saw them become one of the richest clubs in the world.

However, since that moment, the Premier League outfit have failed to hire a chief executive, with Amanda Staveley recently explaining that the search is continuing while they try to seek out ‘the best’ candidate possible.

In more detail, she said: “We’re shareholders, we want this club to be the greatest club in the world. We want to work on a daily basis whichever new chief executive joins us.

“We have had some amazing candidates that we have talked to. We have tried to find the best.”

While discussing the matter with GiveMeSport, Downie explained that this was one decision the club have been attempting to sort, upping their efforts following the end of the January transfer market.

He said: “I know for a fact it is something that they’ve been working hard to try and bring in since the transfer window closed.”

TIF Thoughts on Newcastle and their search for a chief executive…

It’s been no secret that the club have been looking for someone to fill the role of chief executive for some time now. Indeed, The Athletic reported midway through January that interviews were ‘taking place’.

With no appointment being made since then, though, it seems as though any potential candidate has yet to truly convince Staveley and co.

While matters away from the pitch remained undecided, new manager Eddie Howe has at least managed to turn the club’s form around. Despite 1-0 defeats in their last two games, the likelihood of relegation seems to have all but vanished.

If the Magpies can align this improvement on and off the pitch in the coming months, next season could be quite an exciting campaign for supporters.
