Insider Dean Jones has claimed that Michail Antonio has become a player that nobody saw coming for West Ham United.
Michail Antonio has been a solid performer for the Hammers this season having produced eight goals and seven assists in 28 Premier League appearances, according to Transfermarkt.
After signing for West Ham in 2015 for £7 million from Nottingham Forest, Antonio has featured in many positions for the Hammers, including right and left-back. But, he now appears to have found his best position.
Indeed, Dean Jones spoke to GIVEMESPORT and claimed that Michail Antonio has gone against expectations whilst becoming a striker who has an eye for goal.
“He’s turned into a player that none of us expected. But that doesn’t mean that he gets to stay there forever.” Jones said.
TIF Thoughts on Michail Antonio…
Michail Antonio has seen his form drop in recent times having scored just once in his last 12 appearances in all competitions for the Hammers.
However, despite his recent struggles, there’s no denying how far the £10.8 million rated ace (as per Transfermarkt) has come since moving to the English capital. He’s produced 58 goals and 36 goals so far in a whole range of positions such as RW, LM, RB, LW, RM, but it was only really in the 2019/20 season that the Englishman really came into his own in a central striker role, with nine goals in 18 games.
The fact he’s gone from a versatile player who couldn’t quite find the right position in his first few seasons at West Ham to now the club’s all-time leading goalscorer in the Premier League shows just how far he’s come.
