Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp will surely be left seething at footage that has emerged of Virgil van Dijk during their Champions League victory.

The Red safely made it through to the quarter-finals of the competition as they look to recapture the trophy they won in 2019.

Despite losing 1-0 at Anfield, their 2-0 victory from the first leg was enough of a cushion to see them through, with Inter’s task made even harder when Alexis Sanchez was sent off for a tackle on Fabinho in the second half.

But despite the victory in the tie, it wasn’t a night of smooth sailing for Liverpool, as Inter made things nervy when they grabbed a goal through Lautaro Martinez just past the hour mark, though it could be argued that the Van Dijk could and should have done a little bit better when it came to his efforts in trying to keep the ball out the back of the net.

As footage from BT Sport shows, the Dutchman appeared to back away from the Argentinian and put in a lazy attempt of a block before Martinez rifled his shot into the top corner:

Luckily, it didn’t matter in the grand scheme of things on the night as Liverpool were able to make it through in the end, but it is definitely something that needs to be stamped out between now and the end of the season.

With the club currently battling to win the quadruple this season, they can’t afford any of their defenders to make any slips or be slacking off in the way that Van Dijk did last night, so hopefully Klopp can snap him out of it before it becomes a bigger problem for them.
