Divock Origi will be thinking he could have done better on the night as he received a 6/10 rating for his performance in their FA Cup game.

Following on from their victory in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday, Liverpool maintained their hopes of landing the quadruple this season with a nervy 2-1 win at Anfield. Two goals from Takumi Minamino were enough to see them through on the night and put them into the quarter-finals of the competition for first time under Jürgen Klopp.

However whilst they were able to come away with the victory, not every player was at the races on the night, with Origi’s performance in particular coming under the microscope, which was reflected in his player rating.

Writing for The Liverpool Echo, journalist Ian Doyle gave him a 6/10 and noted that for the early part of the game he was ‘barely involved’ until he was able to help set up Minamino for the opening goal of the night. And although he ‘kept plugging away second half’ as Doyle put it, he wasn’t able to turn it into anything impactful for the rest of the game.

Does Origi have a future at Liverpool?

Doyle’s comments are backed up by the stats on the night, as per SofaScore Origi was only able to touch the ball 22 times before he was subbed off with just over five minutes to go and with that he was only able to generate one shot –which was blocked – completed 69% of his passes and even managed to lose possession nine times on the night.

Whilst the Belgian has managed to carve out a niche for himself as the super sub, and has produced some memorable performances when starting, none more so than the night against Barcelona in 2019, this just wasn’t going to be his night against the Canaries.

Games like this show just how inconsistent Origi can be and why he isn’t perhaps trusted to start more games for Liverpool and why the club were willing to let him go this past January. And after a performance like this, he hasn’t exactly done himself any favours in making himself look attractive to any potential suitors.
