Leicester City are going to be busy in the summer transfer window, with Brendan Rodgers willing to offload a number of players from his current squad.

That is according to Dean Jones, who was speaking on the latest episode of Touchline Talk to discuss Rodgers’ position at the club.

Do Leicester need an overhaul in the summer?

No

The insider believes the Northern Irishman feels a number of the players at the King Power Stadium have now run their course at the club and could be heading for the exit door in the summer.

This comes with rumours speculating over the future of Youri Tielemans with the Foxes, amid reported interest from Manchester United in the Belgian midfielder.

Jones believes the King Power brand took a big financial hit over the pandemic, which may force Leicester into selling players to buy this summer, with Rodgers open to the idea.

He said: “It’s a big window for them, there’s no doubt about it. Now, how much money they actually have to spend, we’ll have to find out, because King Power were hit hard by [the pandemic] and the impacts of it, and we saw that in the January market, that they were never going to have a big window there.

“And we’re told, you know, be realistic too about what can happen in the summer. But I think Brendan Rodgers, to be honest, would be quite happy to sell players in order to make room for new ones. He’s starting to question now the character and the mentality of some of the players within his squad, like maybe they’ve had their time at Leicester and need a new challenge.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ claims…

This season will come as a big disappointment domestically for Rodgers, with the Foxes operating at a much lower level than where they were at last season.

There will be a huge emphasis now on going all the way in the Europa Conference League having had their struggles in the Premier League, but perhaps their league form suggests it is time for a mix up of the squad.

We have seen previously with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur where a club have kept a squad of players for so long to the point where the football became stale, and they still find themselves in the rebuilding phase.

Leicester have shown over the years in losing the likes of N’Golo Kante and Riyad Mahrez that they can bounce back from the loss of important players by reinvesting wisely, and this could be the case again this summer.
