How is Ezgjan Alioski getting on after his summer Leeds exit?

The North Macedonian, valued at £5.85m (as per Transfermarkt), certainly established himself as part of the furniture during his stint at Elland Road. He was a near ever-present as he racked up 171 appearances at the club, bagging 22 goals and 19 assists, as well as playing his part in taking Leeds out of the Championship and into the Premier League in 2020.

Not only did he have an impact on the pitch, but he also managed to endear himself to the Leeds United fans with what he did off the pitch, best exemplified by his ‘GjanniCam’ that he would take part in before every game.

However, despite his impact – something the club recognised by offering him a new deal – he walked away from the club last summer and moved on a free transfer to Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli.

How’s he getting on now?

Alioski appears to be getting on pretty well with his new side, as he has managed to bag five goals and seven assists for them this season, which is more goals and assists than Raphinha has managed to bag for Leeds United this season.

And whilst the Saudi Pro League obviously isn’t at the same level of competition as the Premier League, it shows that he does still have that goalscoring touch, and something that Leeds United could well have done with this season – especially in the absence of players like Patrick Bamford, who has been a key source of goals in the past.

He’s also managed to pick up six yellow cards this season, which shows he isn’t scared of putting in a tackle. Indeed, he ranked fifth in the Leeds side last year when it came to tackles per game, so he could have helped a leaky Leeds backline which has allowed more goals than anyone in the division on that kind of form.

TIF Verdict…

Whilst Leeds clearly wanted him to stick around when they offered him the new deal, perhaps this is a lesson to them that they should have offered him a little bit more to stay, because the stats show that in attack and defence, he could have proved a very valuable piece to the Leeds United side and someone who could have really helped them.

Who knows, come the end of the season, they might even want to bring him back to the club to help stabilise things after something of a down year for the side.
