Pundit Paul Robinson claims that the reason Adam Forshaw didn’t start on Saturday in Jesse Marsch’s first game was down to him carrying a knock.

Adam Forshaw has been a regular in the Leeds United midfield this season, he has featured 18 times so far in the Premier League, according to Transfermarkt.

Kalvin Phillips occupied the holding midfield role last campaign, but due to his injury troubles, Forshaw has been called into action this term.

However, in Jesse Marsch’s first game as Leeds boss on Saturday against Leicester in a narrow 1-0 defeat, Forshaw was only fit enough for the bench and came on for the final 20 minutes.

Paul Robinson told MOT Leeds News, that he feels that Forshaw was only dropped due to injury, and it wasn’t anything to do with his form in recent weeks.

“I think he’s carrying a little bit of a knock. You can’t read too much into Marsch’s team selection because we’ve talked about it before, the squad’s not big enough to make that many changes. I don’t think Forshaw has anything to worry about and when he’s fit, he’ll play.” Robinson said.

TIF Thoughts on the comments from Paul Robinson…

According to Sofascore, Forshaw has an average player rating of 6.65 over the past 12 months, however, the midfielder has been showered with praise in numerous performances, as Jermaine Beckford celebrated his return and Phil Hay revealed just how impressed people have been behind the scenes at Leeds.

Albeit, the injury struggles in the Leeds camp have made it hard for the side to have any consistency, and Forshaw has often found himself in the midfield with either players out of their natural position such as Robin Koch, or players who have lacked consistent form at times such as Mateusz Klich.

With the rumours spurring around Elland Road that Kalvin Phillips could be set for a return on Thursday night against Aston Villa, this could see the 30-year-old midfielder’s game time cut. Although, judging by Jesse Marsch’s recent comments, it appears as if Forshaw will start if he’s 100% fit.
