Everton defender Nathan Patterson may have given Toffees boss Frank Lampard something to think about as footage of him has emerged on international duty.

20-year-old Patterson moved to the club this January, but has only made one appearance for the Everton senior side, coming in the FA Cup where he played the first 45 minutes against Boreham Wood.

It’s a far cry from his days at former club Rangers, where he made 27 appearances since making his debut in 2020, but footage of him playing for the Scottish national side might just have offered a little glimpse into the kind of player that Everton are missing out on.

Which manager used to play for Everton's academy?

The Scots were taking on Poland in a friendly game after their World Cup qualifier against Ukraine was postponed until the summer.

Patterson started the game and as footage shared on Twitter shows, he caused the Poles a few problems as he danced his way through their team from just inside the opposition half before getting a shot away that forced Lukasz Skorupski to make a save down to his left:

Does Patterson have a role to play this season?

Whilst it is only one moment, his performance overall appears to have gone down rather well, with journalist Craig Swan saying in The Daily Record: “Second start in four months and always positive with two strong first-half runs ending with shots on target. Third strike also saved and brilliant cross for header over from Christie.”

Swan also gave him an 8/10 rating, one of only two Scotland players to get that rating, along with Billy Gilmour.

So perhaps there is a trick that Lampard is missing when it comes to the 20-year-old that could really give Everton a boost in the final few weeks of the season.

Whilst Seamus Coleman and Jonjoe Kenny are the two preferred men, with 26 and 15 appearances this season respectively, perhaps it might be time for Patterson to be given a chance at the spot once again, and who knows, his attacking flair could lead to more chances for Everton to grab a few goals and lead them away from the drop zone in the Premier League.
