Journalist Dean Jones has identified that Patrick Vieira is not happy with certain players at Crystal Palace after consistently leaving them out of the side.

Players such as Odsonne Edouard and Christian Benteke have had limited game time for the Eagles this season, with Vieira stamping his authority on the team in his first campaign at Selhurst Park.

Jones told GiveMeSport that Vieira is “not convinced” that the players being left of out the side are capable of what he wants them to do.

He said: “For whatever reason, there are a few people in that squad right now that he’s just not convinced can do the job that he wants from them, so he’s not picking them.”

TIF Thoughts on Patrick Vieira leaving Odsonne Edouard and Christian Benteke out of the side…

Although Edouard has featured 22 times in the Premier League this season and scored six goals, seven of those appearances have been off the bench, as Vieira has opted for other options to lead the line for his side.

Wilfried Zaha has been in decent form this season, scoring nine Premier League goals in 23 appearances for Palace and has shown his versatility by playing on either flank or down the middle, which has seemingly kept the likes of Edouard and Benteke out of the side.

Benteke has been relatively poor for his side this season, as in his last five appearances, he has failed to reach a player rating of 7/10, as per Sofascore.

With the likes of Zaha and Jean-Philippe Mateta excelling in their absences, it seems as though the duo have their work out to earn their starting places back if they are to have a future at Selhurst Park.
