Andy Sixsmith who works for the Premier League has heaped praise on Bruno Guimaraes after just his second Newcastle United start.

Eddie Howe shuffled his starting lineup for yesterday’s defeat in the capital handing starts to the likes of Javier Manquillo, Sean Longstaff and Miguel Almiron but record signing Bruno Guimaraes kept his place after a game-winning performance on Thursday.

Should Guimaraes keep his place?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Guimaraes was clearly in the side because of his quality both on and off the ball with the Brazilian leading the way for Newcastle in pressures, tackles and amount of times someone carried the ball, with his teammates clearly trusting him to set the tone and momentum for them to follow.

Sixsmith found it hard to believe that it was just the Brazilian’s second start in English football as he took to Twitter claiming ‘Hard to believe Bruno has only played two full Premier League games. Excellent once again today.’

TIF Thoughts on Guimaraes…

A nice and easy one to start off with, how much is Callum Wilson worth?

It had been a tough start to life on Tyneside for Guimaraes having only been handed cameo appearances by Eddie Howe during Newcastle’s great run of form but having impressed with a stunning goal on his full debut and then getting a load of praise from someone working for the Premier League for how he played yesterday he looks to be settling in very nicely.

Guimaraes appeared to form a good partnership with Longstaff, who himself had not started a game since January, and they marshalled the back four superbly, until the final few minutes, something that will give Howe a lot of confidence going forward that they played so well without their three regulars in midfield.
