Journalist Charles Watts has claimed that William Saliba will start fresh talks with Arsenal about his future over the next few weeks.

Earlier this week, the young defender received some great news as he was awarded a first call up into the senior French national football team. No doubt, this is due to the fine form he has displayed while on loan with Marseille in Ligue 1 this season.

To add to this positive recent development in his career, it seems as though he could be set for an improved contract offer at his parent club in the near future, with Watts stating that ‘Saliba’s people’ will expect talks to begin soon.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, the football writer said (11:10): “What I understand, [is] that Saliba’s people are expecting some sort of talks to start happening in the next few weeks in regards to his Arsenal future, and what might happen with him in the summer.

“Obviously, there’s going to be, you’d think there’s going to be, contract discussions in the summer. Nothing’s happened with that yet. But once they start sort of making contacts over the next two, three weeks, they will plan something for the summer and sit down.

“He’s still got two years left on his contract. But you feel this is gonna be a very important summer when it comes to Saliba and his Arsenal career if he does indeed stay.”

TIF thoughts on William Saliba and Arsenal…

Saliba signed a reported five-year contract with Arsenal back in 2019, meaning he will just two years left on that deal this summer. With that in mind, it makes a lot of sense for both parties to enter into negotiations over a new deal.

However, considering the 21-year-old is still to actually make a senior appearance for the Gunners, it remains unclear as to whether the club would want to offer him an improved deal, and whether or not he would want to extend his stay in England.

Will Arsenal agree a new contract with William Saliba?

No doubt this recent call up to France, and his form away on loan, has proved his quality. That sort of form, though, could attract other teams to come in and make a move for the player in the near future too.

Only time will tell, but if Watts’ claim is true, it may only take a few weeks before we have a better picture of things.
