Insider Dean Jones, prior to last night’s game, claimed that West Ham United manager David Moyes does not fully trust Said Benrahma.

In one of his most recent outings, the attacker managed to make a telling contribution as he provided two assists in the Hammers’ 2-1 victory over Aston Villa.

Despite the key role in that win, manager David Moyes was reluctant to go overboard with his praise on the player, and instead used it as an opportunity to lay down a level of expectation for the player.

He said (via football.london): “That is what he has to do isn’t it? He was better today, but you saw a lot of really good and a lot of really poor so what we are trying to get is the good more regular.”

In light of it all, Jones told GIVEMESPORT that it suggests a clear ‘issue’ between footballer and manager.

He explained: “There’s clearly a trust issue there with Benrahma.

“You can tell that by the number of minutes he gets and the times that he’s given those minutes, but Benrahma can be unbelievable on his day.”

Although, he was given the nod to start in the Europa League last night as he secured 87 minutes of playing time in which he achieved a respectable 7.1 rating, as well as winning four duels, two tackles and having 57 touches (SofaScore).

TIF thoughts on Said Benrahma and West Ham…

Back in 2020, the club agreed upon an initial £5m loan to bring in the player for Brentford. That deal included an obligation to make the move permanent for a fee that could rise to as much as a further £25m.

In his debut season, he did make 31 Premier League appearances, but 16 of those were from the bench. This would back up Jones’ claim that the manager was not willing to trust the player just yet.

This term, the Algerian has played more regularly, making just four appearances from the bench and starting 21 league games instead.

Still, other similar attacking players such as Jarrod Bowen and Pablo Fornals have been handed more minutes this season. It certainly seems as though Benrahma has a little while to go before he can fully convince his manager of his reliability.
