Football writer Joseph Chapman has slammed West Bromwich Albion player Alex Mowatt for his display in the club’s last game.

Earlier this week, the Baggies succumbed to a disappointing 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Swansea City in the Championship. Indeed, goals from Joel Piroe and Cyrus Christie were enough to see Steve Bruce’s men off.

Writing for BirminghamLive after the game, Champan was particularly damning of the efforts of Mowatt and gave him the lowest score out of all the West Brom men in his player ratings.

He gave him a measly 2/10, before writing: “So passive, and so easy to play against for a possession-based team like Swansea who have decent midfield ball players like captain Matt Grimes. Another player whose form has fallen off a cliff, akin to Albion’s in general, in recent months.”

TIF Thoughts on West Brom and Alex Mowatt…

As is made clear by Chapman’s comments, Mowatt really struggled to deal with the opposition. It must be of great concern to hear that his form has been poor of late, which matches West Brom’s.

Indeed, since taking over five matches ago, new manager Bruce is yet to oversee a victory. Due to that, his men have now fallen to as low as 13th in the Championship table and their promotion hopes are in tatters.

Unfortunately, Mowatt has not been able to help address this slide, and only two games ago – in the 2-0 loss to Luton Town – he was given a similarly poor player rating by Chapman, who called him a ‘shadow of the player’ he used to be at the start of the season.

No doubt, something needs to change for both player and club in the near future if the Baggies are to salvage their campaign.
