Frank Lampard is looking to add Conor Gallagher to the Everton squad in the summer, according to TEAMTalk.

The report suggests the Everton manager has made contact with his former side, Chelsea, regarding his interest in the young midfielder.

Is it time for Gomes to move on?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Gallagher is currently on loan with Crystal Palace as he spends another season away from Stamford Bridge, in which he has continued his development under Patrick Vieira.

And develop he has, as the 22-year-old has made a real impression at Selhurst Park this season with seven goals and three assists to his name in the Premier League (via Transfermarkt).

With Thomas Tuchel’s side sitting third in the Premier League table, it is apparent there are questions over whether Gallagher will be able to break into their starting XI.

And that is evident, with Lampard reportedly looking to get at the front of the queue for the midfielder in case he is made available to depart on loan again next season.

But what could this mean for the current Everton squad if Gallagher was to arrive; who could see their spot in Lampard’s side under threat?

Andre Gomes has now been at Goodison Park since 2018 – including his initial loan – but he has not exactly been a regular in the Everton side this season.

The Portuguese has just 11 appearances to his name this season in the Premier League, with only five of them coming in the starting XI (via Transfermarkt).

And it seems injury issues have been a big hindrance to his campaign, having suffered from a calf issue earlier in the season. However, he has not been able to cement a spot in Lampard’s XI.

Since arriving in England, it has become apparent Gomes is not a midfielder who can be relied on for his creative ability, with just two goals to his name for the Toffees.

And it is apparent Gomes is not impressing on Merseyside this season, with Greg O’Keeffe recently slamming the midfielder on the All Together Now podcast when discussing Lampard’s reaction on taking Allan off.

He said: “He was saying how much that affected the game and how much he missed him, which is probably a backhanded way of saying ‘and by the way, I had to bring on Gomes’ – as you [co-host Tony Scott] and I have said, [he] may as well have not been on the pitch. One the worst performances I’ve seen from him.”

When the summer transfer window opens, Gomes will be playing into the final two years of his deal at Everton, so we think the Toffees could look to cash in on him with Gallagher on their radar as time runs out to prove his worth at Goodison Park.
