Daily Record reporter Andy Newport has admitted that losing on Thursday evening could be a huge blow for the Gers while speaking on the Rangers Record Podcast.

Rangers found themselves in dreamland last Thursday when their side travelled to Borussia Dortmund and embarrassed the Bundesliga side, picking up a valuable 4-2 first-leg victory they will look to protect at Ibrox this week.

Will Rangers beat Dortmund in the second leg?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

The Gers will likely face a nervous night, with star Dortmund striker Erling Haaland having trained and in line to feature at some point, while the late goal they conceded kept the German side in the game.

However, Rangers have their own problems having just drawn 1-1 with Dundee United despite having 74% possession, 29 shots and three on target as well as hitting the woodwork late on.

Newport believes that a loss on Thursday could create a huge problem at Rangers and impact their league title chances.

He said: “If Dortmund were to make a comeback of their own and knock Rangers out of the Europa League, then where does that leave the team in its sort of fragile sense of confidence and self-belief, that’d be quite a damaging blow.

“So Thursday night takes on an even bigger perspective even in a domestic sense now, because if they get knocked out of the Europa League having had this commanding lead, then I think that could be fairly damaging.”

TIF Thoughts on Rangers’ chances of progressing…

Rangers will be hoping that a likely raucous atmosphere at Ibrox under the lights and a two-goal advantage will be enough to see them past a huge German side who just battered Borussia Monchengladbach 6-0 in the Bundesliga.

The Gers will be hopeful that Dortmund’s injury woes will work in their favour, however, heading into the match having just failed to beat Dundee United, who are fifth in the SPFL, will not have done their confidence any favours.
