Daily Record journalist Andy Newport has been speaking on the Record Rangers Podcast about the performances of January signing Amad Diallo.

Rangers brought in the Ivory Coast international on a temporary basis last month, and while he did net on his debut in a 3-3 draw against Ross County, he has struggled since then, featuring for just 67 minutes in the league for the Gers following the draw at Dingwall.

Will Rangers beat Dortmund in the second leg?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Diallo was signed by Manchester United in the summer of 2021 for £19 million, which seemed like a lot of money to stump up having played just four first-team league matches – something that Newport agrees with judging by what he’s seen of the youngster during his stint with Rangers.

Newport is not convinced that the winger was worthy of a £20 million price tag.

He said: “From what we’ve seen so far, you struggle to see how this lad’s commanded a £20 million price tag, never mind whatever it might reach with add-ons Man United are due to pay, because some of the basics of football, he’s lacking in right now – awareness, ability to fight.”

TIF Thoughts on Diallo…

It’s safe to say that Diallo’s impact has not been the one either the club or himself would have hoped for having squandered a glorious chance to hand his side all three points at Dundee United on Sunday when he decided to shoot and hit the post instead of squaring it to his teammates.

And with the winger having registered just two shots on target in his four appearances, as well as starting just a single league game, he is not appearing to shows the signs of someone worth £20 million for a Champions League-chasing top-flight side.
